The great thing about self hypnosis is how versatile it is. As soon as you have discovered how to execute self hypnosis you could make use of it almost anytime, any place to help yourself in practically anyway imaginable.
Rather than be imprecise though I’d like to identify a few of the methods self hypnosis can help you with self improvement. It is known that self hypnosis can support relaxation, develop better sleep patterns, develop confidence, support smoking cessation efforts and even weight loss. There are, of course, several other areas self hypnosis can help with.
The reason why people are ready to try self hypnosis where they may very well be more sceptical of hetero hypnosis (one person hypnotizing another) is that the person has complete control over the session. Although, in reality, an ethical hypnotherapist would in no way try and control you or plant messages in your mind which you didn’t want some people would simply prefer to hypnotize themselves so that they don’t have that anxiety floating around in the back of their mind.
Generally there are a number of myths with regards to self hypnosis that I would like to spend a little time debunking.
The first myth is that you can somehow get trapped in a hypnotic trance. This is a total myth for the reason that hypnosis is a naturally occurring state, one that everyone enters several times a day. The most legendary being highway hypnosis where a person can drive for many hours still it appears to fly by in minutes for them. Just as you can’t get trapped in a deep sense of focus, you also can’t with hypnosis. There has never been a documented case of anyone being “stuck” in either hetero or self hypnosis.
The second myth is that only people with a low IQ or below average intelligence could implement self hypnosis. If anything this is the reverse of the reality as self hypnosis requires focus, concentration and visualization abilities.
The third and final self hypnosis misconception I will bust is that a person is sleeping or unconscious in the course of the session. This simply isn’t true, all you have to do is think about it logically. If you were to fall asleep or unconscious whilst undertaking self hypnosis then the session would simply end because you would be unable to continue hypnotizing yourself. Even if someone else hypnotizes you this is not the case. Hypnosis is simply an altered state of awareness. Whilst hypnotized you are still perceptive of things occurring around you. You are merely concentrated more internally rather than externally.
I hope that this article has made it easier for you to feel more at ease concerning self hypnosis.
